Vignetting

Sometimes photographs have a darkened appearance at their edges as if they are being viewed through the base of a bottle. This is a phenomenon known as vignetting and is particularly visible in the corners of pictures containing plain skies. It can be fixed fairly easily during computer processing and this article explains several different techniques.

The animation below compares the same image before and after correction. Pause your mouse pointer over the image and it should change.
